Governor Umaru Tanko Al-makura of Nasarawa State has announced Mr. Silas Agara as his running mate ahead of the 2015 general elections.

Until recently, Agara, an economist by training, has been a commissioner twice in the state, was appointed Special Adviser to Governor Al-makura and only recently, emerged the All Progressives Change (APC) candidate for the Federal House of Representatives into the Akwanga/Nasarawa-Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency.

Al-makura made the announcement yesterday via a press release issued to journalists signed by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Mallam Yakubu Lamai.

According to the statement, Governor Al-makura reached the decision to pick Agara as running mate “After wide ranging consultations with citizens and political stakeholders in Nasarawa State and in tandem with the inclusive attitude of Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura and the democratic culture of the APC.”

Part of the statement reads: “Agara grew up in the bold and unbridled culture of student union activism but has always remained humble and level headed. Agara is passionate about serving the disadvantaged in society and has held the position of Vice President, Economics Students Association SPS Keffi and member Students Union Parliament in University of Jos.

“Silas Agara understands the unwavering commitment of Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura to institute a government of transparency, rapid development, financial probity and discipline and provide a voice for the voiceless in Nasarawa State as he has served as Deputy Director General of Ta’al Campaign Organization from 2010 to 2011.”
