President Muhammadu Buhari has written the Senate urging it to remove what he had earlier identified as inserted projects in place of critical ones in the 2018 budget.
Buhari, while signing the budget last month had questioned lawmakers tampering with the original proposal to them.
The President explained that since the budget sum, as it stands, was
already impossible to be implemented, he had chosen to urge the lawmakers to remove the controversial insertion instead of expecting a supplementary budget submission as requested.
In his letter, read by the President of the Senate Bukola Saraki, Buhari also asked for approval of N254,445,322,600 to fund the upcoming general elections.
The President explained that if approved, it would be drawn from the 2018 and 2019 budgets.
According to the letter, Buhari is also asking for a supplementary budget N242,445,322, 600 to fund six agencies related to the 2019 general elections.
He said: “Of the total sum, N164,104,792,065/ will be drawn from the 2018 supplementary budget while N78,314,530,535 will form part of the 2019 budget of these agencies.”
