FOCAC: Beijing Summit ‘ll set guidelines for stronger China-Africa relations – Zhou

Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Nigeria, Dr. Zhou Pingjian has expressed optimism that 2018 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in Beijing will set strategic guidelines for development of China-Africa relations.
Dr. Zhou who made this known in Abuja at the weekend while addressing newsmen on the agenda of the FOCAC Beijing summit noted that the outcome document of the summit will reflect the consensus of China on major issues including stronger community with a shared future.
His words, “At the opening ceremony of the summit proper, Chinese President, Xi Jinping, the Co-Chair and South African President and Chair of African Union and Secretary-General of United Nations (UN) will address the opening ceremony of FOCAC. The outcome document will be two, Political document is the Beijing declaration toward and even stronger China-Africa community. This political document will set down strategic guidelines for the development of China-Africa relations and reflect the consensus of China and Africa on major issues including stronger community with a shared future”.
Zhou said that large presence of media practitioners that graced the occasion assured him that Nigeria takes serious the Beijing summit saying that the theme of summit is, “China and Africa: Toward an Even Stronger Community with a Shared Future through Win-Win Cooperation”.
“Your presence here gives me the impression that Nigeria takes serious the FOCAC Summit which is going to be held in a very short time. The 2018 Beijing Summit of Forum on China-African Cooperation (FOCAC) is going to be held in China. The theme is, China and Africa: Toward an Even Stronger Community with a Shared Future through Win-Win Cooperation. The Beijing side has announced the summit”.
“On 1st of September Meeting of Senior officials of FOCAC is going to be held and Nigeria delegation will be participating greatly. On the second of September, the 7th Ministerial Conference of FOCAC is going to be held. As we all know, the senior official meeting and ministerial conference are making preparation for the summit. The summit will be unique given the fact that there will be huge presence of people in Beijing this time”.
Zhou who took pressmen memory lane said that FOCAC which has 44 African nations at inception in 2000 now has 52 nations including African Union Commission which will feature prominently at the summit.
“At the inception of FOCAC in 2000, they were 44 African members and in its 2006 summit, they were 48 countries of Africa. In Johannesburg in 2015, there are 52 African members including African Union Commission and this time in Beijing, beside China and the Co-host country South Africa, there will be 52 African countries and African Union”.
On the 3rd of September, there will be high level dialogue between Africa and china leaders and business representatives on the 6th conference China and African entrepreneurs. It will be hosted by President Xi Jinping and he will address the opening ceremony.
”Five heads of State from each sub region of Africa will also address the business summit and President Buhari will also address the occasion. Beside these leaders, two entrepreneurs will address the summit, one from Africa and one from China”.
