One of the candidates contesting the Chairmanship of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Raymond Dokpesi has said that the party had never adopted micro zoning for the position of the Chairmanship of the party.
Dokpesi who stated this yesterday during an interactive session with journalists at his residence in Abuja, said the party has zoned the position of the Chairmanship of the party to the entire three regions in the south while the position of the President in 2019 elections was zoned to the entire three regions in the north.
Dokpesi who spoke while reacting to reports accredited to some leaders of the party that the Chairmanship position was zone to South West said, “There is no micro zoning in the party. There was no time that the party considered a section of the south for the Chairman of the party. Various committees were set up and all of them recommended that the Chairmanship position of the party should go to the south while north will produce the president of the party come 2019.
“Also, an 88 man committee which was chaired by Ebonyi state governor, Co-chaired by Ibrahim Dankwambo and former Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam, gave the same recommendation and the party convention agreed with the recommendation and that is the position of the party.
“It is the consensus of the party and that is what we are going to follow. This consensus was to ensure that all members are equitably and fairly represented and to also create opportunity for everyone in the region.”
He added that the newly adopted patern will help the party to follow the steps of its founding fathers who gave room for fair representation without any micro zoning.
Speaking on Advanced Peoples Democratic Alliance (APDA), Dokpesi said the party which he founded and funded was an alternative for most of the PDP members.
He said the party which was registered at the pick of the power tussle of the leadership of the party between the former Governor of Borno state, Ali Modu Sheriff and former Governor of Kaduna state, Ahmed Makarfi was to create alternative for members.
Dokpesi said most members of the party suffered when Sheriff was confirmed by the Appeal Court as the leader of the part.
“During that time, many people were not allowed to contest. People at the local level suffered greatly under Sheriff. People from the Makarfi faction were barred from contesting. We could not fold our arms and watch but to work towards having an option.
“So, I decided to register the party so that if the Makarfi faction was not favoured at the end of the day we will have a party to fall back to”.
He said the descision to register the party was not only his descision but the descision of many members of the concerned PDP.
“I always act in the interests of our members. This is because I blieve that our party can move forward if we allow truth to prevail above personal interest.
“When our party was having problems and people started leaving, I organised all of them so that we could discuss as one family and we did successfully. I will always work towards uniting the party at anytime.”
