Patronise computerised vehicle inspection Centres – Bello implores motorists

To reduce road crashes in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) motorists are implored to always patronize the computerised vehicles inspection Centres.
According to the FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello who made this point, residents should as a matter of necessity accept and patronise the services of the computerized inspection Centres.
Bello, in a keynote address at a stakeholders/town hall meeting on ‘Mandatory FCT VIO Computerised Vehicles Inspection Services and Other Traffic Regulation Issues’ expressed worry over the statistics that the territory has the highest road crashes in the country.
He noted that road traffic matters in the FCT is everybody’s business, adding that it is the collective responsibility of motorists to embrace the computerised vehicles inspection services project to achieve its goals.
Represented by the Acting Secretary, FCT Transportation Secretariat, Suleiman A. Mohammed, the Minister stressed that it is the duty and responsibility of the administration to ensure the safety of people on the roads.
He also disclosed that three centres, located at Kugbo, Katampe and Gwgwalada are presently providing computerised vehicles inspection services.
However, he said efforts are on to establish more centres at the Federal Secretariat, Wuye, Bwari, Apo and Kuje.
Earlier in his welcome remark, the Director, FCT Directorate of Road Traffic Services (FCT-DRTS), Wadata Aliyu Bodinga reiterated that the FCT computerised vehicles inspection project was meant to ensure that only roadworthy vehicles ply FCT roads.
Bodinga noted that the FCT has the best road network in the federation, but attributed the high rate of road crashes in the territory to driving method, the driver himself, as well as the vehicle.
He disclosed that efforts are being made, in collaboration with Messrs Temple Resources Limited, to transform the Directorate, to serve the public better.
