The Senator representing Niger East Senatorial district of Niger State, David Umaru has been warned to desist from using religion, ethnic differences and propaganda to create chaos in order to achieve his cheap political gains in the state.
The Concern Gbagyi Elders Forum in Zone ‘B’ led by Alhaji Awaisu Mohammed Giwa made the disclosure yesterday in Minna at a press briefing, describing the senator’s utterances of marginalization as ‘unfair and unacceptable’ which were aimed at misleading the Gbagyis in Zone B.
“Mr. Senator, the time of tribal and political hanky panky is over. The Gbagyis have come of age, any religious, ethnic politics that will mislead the Gbagyis for the selfish and personal interest of any individual is over.
‘Gbagyis can no longer be overtaken by cheap propaganda, because of the selfish ambition of any politician using such event as Gbagyi cultural festival to sell his tribal, indirect religious propaganda to the Gbagyis.”
The accusation is coming on the heels of Senator Umaru’s negative utterances at the Christian carol held at Justice Legbo Kutigi recently at 6th Gbagyi Cultural Festival at Diko in Suleja local government where he decried of marginalization of the Gbagyi people, shari’a implementation; and called for more area courts to be created.
Giwa accused Sen. Umaru of playing antics of tribal and religious dichotomy to achieve his political gains, which has made him very unpopular in the eyes of the people in his constituency and Niger state.
They explained that Gbagyis never had it better, because since 1999 it is now a Gbagyi man became Minister, Speaker, Chief of Staff, four Commissioners, Political Adviser to governor and Chairman of civil service Commission to mention but few.
He added that Senator Umaru should henceforth desist from his mayopic and sentimental ways of deceiving the Nigerlites, because the people have discovered who he is, and his efforts to use religion and tribal sentiment to divide the long peaceful coexistence of multiple tribes in the state.
The elders, therefore, demanded for his recall from the National Assembly as representative of Niger East, as he is not representing the people that elected him to the senate. Giwa promised to mobilize people against him come 2019, as he emerged senator because of the influence of Presiding Muhammadu Buhari.
He explained that Umaru has failed his people in the red Chambers of the National Assembly and has no moral rights to criticized anybody due to his inadequate representation as a bench warmer hence deteriorating his popularity in the state, question him on his impact on the lives of the people in his constituency.
Giwa expressed dismay over the Senator’s behaviour, urging him to account for the N934 million 2016 constituency project funds received by those working with the Senator but had not impacted adequately on the lives of his people; hence his failed ambition to be governor in the state.
