The outgoing Governing Council of the University of Abuja, has established a faculty of pharmaceutical sciences which would take-off in the next academic calendar.
Disclosing this during a press briefing to mark the Council’s stewardship, the spokesman of the 7th Governing Council, Prof. Ediga Agbo, also said the Council had approved the establishment of a faculty of Environmental Design as well as the Department of Geology and Archeology.
Agbo further disclosed that the Council had created a sports Council as well as a Department of Physical Education, Kinetics and Recreation in the interest of the students.
He expressed with joy that the Council had worked in partnership with the National Universities Commission (NUC) to accredit almost all the courses, while leaving a few programmes with temporary accreditation issues.
Commenting on the Centre for Distance Learning and Continuing Education (CDL & CE) which was closed by the NUC due to various hiccups, he said that the Council as well as the management of the University had re-opened the Centre saying that about seven courses are being run for now.
He noted that the Council was able to restore peace co-existence among the University’s management, ASUU, SSANU as well as the students to fast track development in the University Community.
Agbo, however, called on the incoming Governing Council to deem it necessary to build on the outstanding achievements of the immediate past Council to move the University to a greater height.
