The Adamawa state government in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO) to administer free malaria treatment to one million(1Million) children in Adamawa state.
State Malaria program Manager, Benjamin Nashion disclosed the development at a one day awareness media engagement in Yola on Wednesday, stressing that WHO under its intervention programme tagged “Seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC)” for 2022.
Nashion said the children who could benefit during the exercise scheduled for four days starting today (Thursday) would be from 3 – 59 months old.
“The exercise for 2022 will kickstart on Thursday 2nd June, 2022 and will end in September this year. The rationale for scheduling the program during the rainy season is because it is the time when malaria is prevalent”.
Nashion urged the media practitioners to help in sensitizing the general public on the program for optimal result.
Also speaking, the national consultant Malaria in emergency northeast WHO office, Dr. Ini Abasi Nglass, said, the exercise has recorded tremendous success in 2021.
