Two cleaners were yesterday docked at an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, over alleged theft of an industrial cleaning machine valued at N800,000.
The accused – Michael Momodu, 33, is a resident of No. 29, Temidire St., Alagbado, Lagos, while Daniel Benson, 23, lives at Block M14, Abesan Estate, Ipaja, also in Lagos.
The duo is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and theft.
According to the prosecutor, Sgt. Edet Akadu, the accused committed the offences on March 18 at Unity Street, Jakande, Lekki.He alleged that the cleaners stole the industrial cleaning machine belonging to their employer – Grace First Properties.
“When the accused interrogated, they claimed that the machine had been sold as scrap to an undisclosed buyer for N2, 500 only”, he stated.
According to Akadu, the offences contravene Sections 285 (7) and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Section 285 (7) prescribes seven years imprisonment for stealing, while Section 409 provides a two-year jail term for conspiracy.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mrs. Joy Ugbomoiko, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum and adjourned the case to May 15 for trial. (NAN)
