Two men, Jibrin Mohammed, 27 and Sani Haruna, 23, were on Friday arraigned in a Karu Chief Magistrate’s Court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing 100 litres of diesel.
The accused, both of Karshi community in the Federal Capital Territory, are charged with criminal conspiracy, theft, criminal intimidation and causing grievous hurt.
The prosecutor, Mr Pascal Njoku, told the court that one Sky Gideon, an employee of S.C.C Nigeria Ltd, Karshi Site, reported the matter at Karshi Police Station on May 11.
Njuko said that it was reported that on the same day, the accused conspired and stole 100 litres of diesel from the S.C.C dumper machine.
He said that when the accused were confronted, he intimated the complainant by threatening to kill him.
The prosecutor said the accused threw a stone at the complainant, harming him on the head.
He said the offence contravened sections 95, 286, 397 and 241 of the Penal Code.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor urged the court not to grant the accused bail as investigation into the matter was ongoing.
However, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Hadiza Dodo, granted them bail in the sum of N500, 000 each with a surety each in like sum.
Dodo ordered that the sureties must be of reputable character and must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court.
She also ordered that the sureties must have good means of livelihood which must be verified.
She adjourned the case till June 23. (NAN)
