From Ahmed Idris, Birnin Kebbi
Kebbi South Senatorial district, comprising Zuru and Yauri Emirates of Kebbi State, has called on the people of Gwandu Emirate to support its agitation for power shift to the zone in the 2015 general elections.
Leader of the delegation and Chairman of the Kebbi South Forum, Alhaji Wakkala Diri, in his speech at the Gwandu Emirate Palace over the weekend in Birnin Kebbi said they have come to solicit the support of Gwandu people to field a candidate for the 2015 gubernatorial elections.
He urged the Gwandu people to emulate Abdullahi Fodio, the founder of Gwandu Emirate, who sustained his glory through equity and justice. “So, we have no doubt in our mind that the people of Gwandu will emulate him and support us.
“Alhaji Abubakar Musa from Kebbi South was a governor of Kebbi for a year and few months, while Adamu Aliero from Kebbi Central Senatorial district spent eight years and Alhaji Saidu Dakingari from Kebbi Central Senatorial District would spent eight years.
“The constitution divides every state into three senatorial districts, in the present situation Kebbi North, Kebbi South and Kebbi Central senatorial districts.
“Every senatorial district had been represented, despite the number of years spent in the office.
“We have no doubts in our minds that the emirate would consider and support us, he said.
Diri described the meeting as unique in nature as first of its kinds where Kebbi indigenes resolved to move towards the betterment of the state and to shun biases and sentiments and embrace the development of the state.
The association assured GEDA that if their candidate happened to be the next governor of the state, he would ensure equity, transparency and justice.
Alhaji Idris Illo, the Chairman of Gwandu Emirate Development Association (GEDA), said the group would dilebrate on the issues presented and respond soon.
“There are a lot of biological relationship between the people that lead to peaceful coexistence in the state,” he pointed out.
He assured the forum that he would do everything every thing possible to maintain the peace in the state.
The former speaker of the state Assembly, Garba Dantani, and Alhaji Kabiru Yakaji both reiterated the quest for the support of GEDA to Kebbi South Forum.
