Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) youth groups across northern states under the aegis of Arewa PDP Supporters Network yesterday unanimously endorsed Jigawa state governor , Alhaji Sule Lamido, for position of the President by 2015.
Addressing newsmen in Kaduna, coordinator of the group, Engineer Sani Danbarno, maintained that the youth groups decided to back Lamido because of President Jonathan’s refusal to handover to a northern candidate come 2015.
According to them, their agreement with Jonathan was for a single term after which he would hand over to a Northerner.
“The agreement was for power to rotate between North and South and his promise to complete Late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua’s tenure. So we are backing Governor Lamido as Yar’Adua’s successor because of his past experience as a minister and achievements as governor in Jigawa as well as elder statesman role in the north,” he said.
He said “Lamido is a vanguard of democracy, detribalized Nigeria, pioneer member of PDP and particularly his giant strides in agricultural development as well as physical infrastructure.
“Educational development, youth and women, youth and economic empowerment, construction of new airport , good housing scheme and other infrastructural facilities that he provided in Jigawa as governor with his tenure,”
Danbarno said Nigerians and the country at large need someone like Lamido to rescue the country from the current insecurity in the country.
