From Mustapha Adamu, Kano
Hours after Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State directed all his political appointees to resign, Murtala Sule Garo, a powerful figure in the government and Commissioner for Local Government, has resigned.
There has been strong speculations that Garo would contest for governorship election in 2023, a rumour that was fuelled by First Lady, Hafsat Ganduje at an event last year.
Even though Garo is yet to declare his intention to contest for the gubernatorial election come 2023, under the All Progressives Congress, APC, there are strong indications to that notion.
However the Garo’s resignation had indicated that he is vying for the number one seat in the state.
In the resignation letter issued on Sunday, Garo stated that it had been a rewarding experience working under the guidance and supervision of Ganduje since 2014.
” I write with a deep sense of humility and gratitude to tender my resignation as Honourable Commissioner in charge of Kano State Ministry Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs.
“Your Excellency Sir, it has been an immensely rewarding experience working directly under your guidance and supervision from 2014 when I was elected as Local Government Chairman and your subsequent decision to appoint me as Commissioner in your administration.
“These years have afforded me the rare privilege to tap from your Excellency’s administrative acumen and political sagacity.
“There is no doubt that the present administration, under your able leadership, has impacted positively the lives of the good people of Kano State and I’m proud to be part of the giant stride of your administration in the last seven years. While thanking your Excellency for affording me the rare privilege serve, please accept the assurances of my loyalty now and always.”
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner for Rural Development, Musa Kwankwaso has resigned.
Speaking to newsmen on Sunday, a viral Mr Iliyasu thanked Mr Ganduje for the opportunity to serve in his administration.
Sources said Musa Ilyasu plans to contest for House of Representatives under Kura/Madobi/Garun-Malam Federal Constituency.
Also, the Kano State Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Nura Muhammad Dankadai has resigned from his position.
It was gathered that Dankadai had resigned because he wants to contest for House of Representatives for Doguwa/Tudunwada Federal Constituency.
Peoples Daily learned that more of the Ganduje’s appointees would keep resigning before today (Monday), which is the expiration day of the deadline.
