As the jostle for the Senate ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to represent the Nasarawa West Senatorial Zone in the red Chamber heats up, a frontline aspirant, Arch Shehu Tukur, yesterday took his campaign to the Nasarawa State House of Assembly.
It would be recalled that the Senate, in a swift amendment to the Electoral Act, 2022 yesterday, made statutory delegates, such as State House Members delegates at party primaries and other functions.
Arch Tukur, who was received by the Speaker and other members of the State House of Assembly from the Zone, met with the lawmakers to solicit for their votes at the forthcoming primary of the party.
He said his decision to contest for the seat was arrived at after wide consultation with critical stakeholders of the party and the Zone.
Speaking on the right qualities required of any one aspiring to replace Senator Abdullahi Adamu at the red Chamber, Arch Tukur said he was convinced that he stood out among other Aspirants gunning for the Seat.
He noted that with the records set by Senator Adamu in the Senate, the Zone should only accept someone with potentials to push the bar higher and not otherwise.
He said over the last 11 years, the zone, under the able leadership of Senator Adamu, had become the cynosure of all eyes, adding that the goals of the constituents should be to at least keep the trophy if they cannot win more.
He said it became imperative for him to throw his hat in the ring when it became clear that people such as the Speaker of the House were not interested in the Seat for now, after it was vacated by Senator Adamu.
He said it was important for the Seat to always be occupied only by cool headed, result oriented and experienced individuals.
He said “I am here with my campaign team to officially inform you of my aspiration and to solicit for your support in order to actualize my dream.
“My decision to contest for the Seat of the Senate of our Zone followed the vacancy created by the emergence of Sen. Abdullahi Adamu as National Chairman of our great party, APC.
“I have waited for Mr Speaker to declare for the Seat but he did not. I said if Mr Speaker will contest for the seat, I will not contest and since Mr Speaker is not contesting, I am contesting because Senate is for competent people, for high character.
