A 27 year old young man, Inalegwu Ochekwu resident in Otukpo local government area of Benue State has raped a ten year old girl simply identified as Franca.
Narrating the incident to newsmen, the little girl said she was sent to look for her sister who had been sent on errand and had gone to the suspect’s shop who is an apprentice dry cleaner.
“When I went to his shop to find out whether he saw my sister, the man said no, but as I was going back, he grabbed me.
“As I was shouting asking what was happening, he carried a cloth to cover my mouth and I struggled with him, he pressed me down, tore my cloth and forced himself on me and my body was stained with blood,” Franca said.
A social activist, Mrs Julie Okoh who reported the case at Otukpo Divisional Police, commended the Divisional Police Officer, Supol Bawa who she said has exhibited zero tolerance for rape cases.
She thanked the DPO for facilitating movement of the victim and culprit to command headquarters in Makurdi.
When contacted, the State Command spokesperson, DSP Catherine Anene said she was yet to be briefed.
“I have not been briefed, because I have been busy with recruitment exercise”, Anene said.
