Three security men have appeared before a Senior Magistrates’ court in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja charged with joint act, mischief and negligence of duty.
Those arraigned are Yusuf Usman, Shagari Musa and Amogu Christian who worked at Lead Security Company at No. 24 Blantire Street, Wuse 2, Abuja.
The prosecutor, Cpl David Udeh, told the court that on February 18 at about 12.30 a.m., Mr Anthony Emmanuel of Lead Security Company, Wuse 2, Abuja lodged a report at the Wuse Police Station.
Udeh told the court that the three accused persons were security men attached to guard the premises of Unity Kapital Insurance Company, Central Business District (CBD), Abuja.
The prosecutor informed the court that they neglected their responsibilities as security men by not handing over properly to those taking over from them.
He told the court that because of the negligence, there was theft in the premises.
He said two brain boxes of Toyota Hiace buses, a Toyota Corolla car, tapping glass bottom were stolen, and the side wind screen of the cars also got broken.
Udeh said the offences contravened the provisions of sections 79, 327 and 196 of the Penal code respectively.
If convicted, they face two and half years in prison each or with an option to pay a fine or both.
The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor prayed the court to grant him a date to open the case against the accused persons.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr. Anthony Ogboyi, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N100, 000 each with one surety each in like sum.
Ogboyi ordered the sureties to deposit their passport photographs with the court; he then adjourned the matter to March 10 for hearing proper. (NAN)
