A Grade 1 Area Court in Kado, Abuja, yesterday sentenced one Shu’aibu Abdullahi, Eze Okorie, Kingsley Okafor, to two months in prison each for fighting in public.
Abdullahi, 19, Okorie, 35 and Okafor 34, all of no fixed addresses were charged with constituting public nuisance.
The Presiding Judge, Malam Abubakar Sadiq, sentenced the three men after they pleaded guilty.
Sadiq, however, gave the convicts an option to pay N5,000 each as fine.
The punishment, he said, was to make them change their lifestyles and be good citizens.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Friday Idi, had told the court that the matter was lodged by Bello Abdullahi of Gwarinpa Police Station, Abuja, on April 28.
Idi said that the accused were arrested after engaging in a free for all on 7th Avenue, behind Oando Filling Station, Gwarinpa, Abuja.
The prosecutor said they were arrested because they could not identify themselves properly.
After their guilty plea, the prosecutor urged the court to summarily sentence them under Section 157 (1) of the Criminal Procedure Code.
The section states that if an accused admits that he has committed an offence he is accused of, his admission shall be recorded. (NAN)
