Three people, who specialise in robbery in the Trans-Sahara borders of Yobe state with Niger Republic, have been killed in a shootout between them and the Zone “C’ vigilante group.
The state commissioner of Yobe state police command, Sanusi Rufai said the robbers were killed in an encounter following tip-off by the vigilantes assisted by the police, pointing out that 1 Ak47 riffle, 3 Camels and other relevant items were recovered from them.
He said the robbers were killed in a forest between Karasuwa and Bade local government which borders Niger Republic.
On the identity of the robbers, the commissioner said they were of foreign nationalities adding however, that their true identity would soon be disclosed.
Also speaking, leader of the vigilante group commonly called Sarkin Baka, Alhaji Gambo Kachala said one of the camels recovered was stolen from Niger Republic while the other two were stolen from Bulatima village in Karasuwa local government area.
He called on the state government to assist the group with arms and vehicles to help them improve in their operational coverage and an office accommodation that would make it possible for people to contact the group easily with information for quick intervention.
