The Oyo state Sector Commander of the Federal Roads Safety Corps, (FRSC), Mr. Godwin Ogagaoghene said 30 persons died in the state from road traffic accidents in March.
Ogagaoghene told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday, in Ibadan, that the deaths were recorded from 20 accidents.
“The victims of these crashes are made up of 21 males, six females and three children. Apart from those who died, 81 people also sustained various degrees of injuries,” he said.
He added that the crashes involved 27 commercial vehicles and five private cars.
The commander also said that 2,457 persons were arrested for different road traffic offences in March.
“We arrested 865 motorcyclists for not using their crash helmets, 353 persons for seat belt use violation and 23 people for using their mobile telephones while driving,” he said.(NAN)
He, however, called on motorists to abide by road safety rules and regulations in order to reduce crashes in the months ahead.
“To ensure that the roads are made safer, the state sector command will be training some road safety volunteers today (Thursday) to assist the commission’s officials in traffic administration,” he said.
The training, he added, would be in collaboration with Shell Nigeria. (NAN)
