Allegations of killings perpetrated by suspected herdsmen in Onicha Olona Community in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State has unsettled its residents who on Monday sought urgent steps to curb the bizarre activities in the area.
It was gathered that several farmers had allegedly been killed in their farm lands in the community by the suspected herdsmen who in the last few months had been on rampage in the community
Sources said following the alleged killings, residents including the farmers have boycotted their farm work to stay indoors, a situation that had created tension laced with unexpected hunger in the community, especially with the difficult economic development across the globe.
Last Wednesday, two unnamed farmers were allegedly murdered by some rampaging herdsmen who on their alleged failure to provide them with money were shot dead on the spot
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Edafe Bright, who confirmed the incident said that the police were on the trail of the hoodlums adding that”We are investigating the incident with a view to ensuring that those behind the nefarious activities are brought to arrest in the community”
Speaking to our correspondent the traditional ruler of the community, HRM Obi Christopher Diji said” We are under seige of herdsmen attacks and they have allegedly been killing our farmers and we have abandoned our farm lands. We are now hungry, no food for fear of the unknown. These herdsmen have also allegedly raped our women severally, kidnapped our people as they go with AK-47s riffles and in disguise as cattle rearer .Our Community bush has turned into haven for Criminals. We want the security agents to come to our aid because we are suffering.
