An Abuja Grade 1 Area Court, in Kado, has ordered an applicant, Mathew John, 28, to be remanded in prison custody pending hearing of a bail application.
John, who resides in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, is charged with stealing a Samsung cell phone, and belonging to a gang of thieves.
The presiding judge, Mr Mohammed Sadiq, ordered the accused to engage the service of a lawyer.
Sadiq, who refused to grant bail to the accused, adjourned the case until June 2.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Simon Ibrahim, had told the court that one Theresa Ogbobe of Ikpegi, Abuja, lodged a report against the accused.
He said that the report was lodged at the Utako Police Station on April. 15.
Ibrahim said the convict snatched a Galaxy Samsung cell phone belonging to the complainant valued at N65,000 around the Berger Bus Stop.
He said during investigations, the police confirmed that John belonged to a gang of thieves.
He said the offence contravened the the Penal Code and If convicted, the accused was liable to five years in prison. (NAN)
