The Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN) extends its congratulations to one of its Vice Presidents, Prof. Kate Omenugha, on her recent appointment as Commissioner for Education in Anambra State.
The association in a statement issued at the weekend by its Publicity Officer, Dr. Bisi Olawunmi, noted that the appointment was a recognition of the sterling qualities of Prof. Omenugha, particularly her thorough professional training as an educator.
Prof. Omenugha, the second female professor of mass communication in Nigeria, has been one of the driving forces in the formation of the innovative, bridge-building ACSPN in the continuing efforts at closing the gap between Town and Gown – the practitioners and the academics – in the field of communication in the country.
She is expected to bring to her new position training experience at both secondary and tertiary levels having been a former secondary school Principal as well as Head, Department of Mass Communication, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra state.
Prof. Onemugha is an Alumnus of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka where she earned bachelors and masters degrees in English and Mass Communication, respectively, and Gloucestershire University, Gloucestershire, Britain where she got her doctorate degree in media and gender studies.
Until her appointment, Prof. Omenugha was the director of UNIZIK Campus radio station which won the award as best Campus radio station in Nigeria in 2013.
She is married, with six children.
