Second Republic Minister of Transportation, Alhaji Umaru Dikko was finally buried yesterday in his hometown, Zaria.
President Goodluck Jonathan, who was represented by the Minister for Special Duties, Dr. Tanimu Turaki, said the late Dikko was an elderly statesman and a respected member of the ruling People’s Democratic Party(PDP), where he served as the Chairman of the disciplinary committee before his death.
The corpse of the late politician had earlier arrived his Kaduna residence from Abuja around 8am and was received by family members, friends and associates.
Before departing Kaduna for Zaria in an ambulance and arrived the palace of the Emir of Zazzau around 1:30pm.
The prayer rites was performed in front of the palace, led by the Chief Imam of the Zaria Juma’at mosque, Sheikh Sani Aliyu. In attendance were the Emir of Zaria, Dr. Shehu Idris and the Kaduna State Governor, Mukhtar Ramalan Yero.
After the prayer, the corpse was moved to the Baan Zazzau commentary where he was finally buried.
At his Kaduna residence it was a situation of uncontrolled wailing. A family member, Ibrahim Suleiman, said it is disappointing that only eight vehicles apart from that of the family vehicle that escorted the corpse from Kaduna to Zaria.
In his own reaction, Provost, Federal College of Education, Zaria,
Dr. Mukhtar Ibrahim Maccido described the death of the late Umaru Dikko as loss to the Country not to his family. He however, expressed disappointment at the low turnout.
