The Secretary-General of Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), Adisa Beyioku, yesterday said all was set for the third edition of the NVBF President’s Male and Female Beach Volleyball Championships.
Beyioku said that the championships would get underway in Abuja today, with participating teams and officials expected to arrive on Thursday.
“We have concluded all arrangements for the championships to run smoothly, and the teams and officials taking part are all expected to start arriving today (Thursday),’’ he said.
The NVBF secretary-general said the competitions’ Technical Meeting was already fixed to hold at 8 a.m. today, with matches scheduled on Saturday at the Jabi Lake Dam.
“The matches will begin after the Technical Meeting today. The competition is for two days, and Sunday, Feb. 23 is for the departure of all teams and officials,’’ he said.
Beyioku said the federation was expecting massive participation, with entrants being expected from all the 36 states of the federation and the FCT.
“We had informed the states and clubs about these championships since early February, apart from the fact that they were aware it is part of our national programme.
“So, we are expecting many participants at the championships, and we are also expecting an exciting event as it is the first beach volleyball competition this year,’’ he said.
The NVBF official then called for more moral and financial support for the game from corporate bodies and individuals, saying “the federation needs more support to raise the game’’.
