Worried by the rising cases of infection of Coronavirus in Benue State, the Action Committee on Covid – 19 plans to institute penalties on persons or organizations violating the use of face masks.
The Committee’s Secretary Dr. Sunday Ongbabo who said this yesterday in a telephone conversation with our correspondent, expressed disappointment at the adamant refusal of people to Obey the laid down protocol especially the wearing of face masks.
He also, lamented over the increasing rate of infection in the State, intimating that there are over 200 cases while 85 persons have been treated and discharged.
Dr. Ongbabo who is the State Commissioner for Health regretted that the fees disobedient ones are putting the lives of many are risk hence, the need to institute a stiff penalty to check them.
“This is the challenge we are facing.. Those who refuse to wear face mask are jeopardizing the wellbeing of the people. Therefore, we need to institute stiff penalties on defaulters”, Ongbabo said.
He disclosed that most of the top government officials who had earlier tested positive including the Chief of Staff to Governor Samuel Ortom, Terwase Orbunde as well as the Principal Special Assistant on Special Duties Abraham Kwaghngu, adding that more results are been expected.
