The Muslim Students Society (MSS) has accused President Goodluck Jonathan of lacking the will to tackle the unabated killings by insurgents, of innocent people in the North-east.
The coordinator of the society in the 19 northern states, Mallam Yusuf Yakub Arrigazziyu stated the group’s position at the re-union dinner for former female executives of the society held in Kaduna yesterday.
Arrigazziyu who is also the vice president of the MSS, said time has come that the truth must be told, as all indications point to the fact that it is either the president that lacks the will power to address the problem, or the administration is turning its face away from reality while people are being slaughtered.
“We cannot be sitting here having a dinner while our Muslim brothers are being slaughtered at will by what I always call ‘unknown gunmen’ because as Muslims, we believe that those responsible for these killings are not believers because the holy Qur’an is clear about the consequence of killing innocent people not to talk of pupils who are seeking knowledge that will enable them to be well informed.
“Therefore, l call on everybody especially the media, to stop referring to these murderers as Islamic militants. It is more painful because information reaching us have shown that the attacks always take the same system, first the troops would be redeployed, then the insurgents will strike. It happened in the College of Agriculture, Gujab and Federal Government College in Buni-Yadi, all in Yobe state.
“We want President Jonathan and his military chiefs to explain to the nation who ordered the withdrawal of troops and to where? We were also reliably informed that the insurgents came in 9 Hillux vans to slaughter our children at the Federal Government College; where did they pass though, that they could not be spotted in state that is still under emergency?”, he queried.
Arrigazziyu also challenged northern leaders to come out and save the region instead of dividing it along political and religious lines.
