The Nigeria Police yesterday distributed some food items to 100 widows of policemen killed in Borno state in the three years of Boko Haram insurgency.
The items which included 100 bags of rice and packs of detergent, were donated by the wife of the Inspector General of Police, Hajiya Zara Abubakar who is also the president of Police Officers Wives Association (POWA) at the state police headquarters, Maiduguri, police authority in Borno said.
Wife of the Borno state Commissioner of Police, Rahinatu Tanko said the items were part of the gesture of the police management and POWA to identify with the widows in difficult time.
She said the president of POWA and wife of the IGP was particularly concerned about how the wives of the slain cops have been coping with challenges of life and as such, graciously donated 100 bags of rice as her widow’s mite to the dependants of policemen who died on duty.
