Palpable tension has continued to unsettle Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta state following the current palaver that has erupted as faction within the Christian Association of Nigeria ( CAN) in the area by some members.
Leader of the faction, Apostle Linus Enomolele was alleged to have been imposed on the association in the area, a situation described might destroyed completely CAN if urgent steps are not taken to save the situation by the state Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa.
Aggrieved members of the association on monday alleged that the State Chairman, Senior Apostle Sam Okorote with the assistance of the Chairman of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria ( PFN) Bishop Kingsley Enakirherhi were determined to go against the will of the majority that favour the Candidature of Rev Wilson Orilkpeete for the Chairmanship position, adding that the situation might be worse hit if urgent steps are not taken to foil their sinister motive.
Speaking to Journalists in Asaba, one of the CAN members in Ethiope East Local Government Area, Bishop Been Umudi claimed that the election that saw the emergence of Enomolele Linus as Chairman was conducted in Asaba was an act of impunity, adding that the State Secretary, Rev monday Madueke and Vice Chairman, Rev fr Jesu Ovie who ought to be involved in the election did not participate because they didn’t want to be part of the illegality.
He said” why did they carry the election from Ethiope East to Asaba? Because they know that if it was held here, Enomolele Linus would have lost, well, he cannot call any meeting in Ethiope East neither can his so called executive be inuagurated anywhere in Ethiope East, and he cannot come and rule us here except he will do so from Asaba, We are waiting for them”.
While calling on the state Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa to urgently interven, Bishop Umudi said that illegality can never work in CAN because of peace loving people they are adding that the State CAN and PFN Chairmen want Enomolele because he would be allegedly used as tool in their hands to carry out their dictates.
In a swift reaction, Bishop kingsley Enakirherhi said that Bishop Umudi had written several Petitions and at a time had to apologise, adding” he is behaving funny, how many persons are in his church? What does it takes to be a Bishop? he is not a delegate, so why is he trying to create problems? I don’t know Linus, I am an Urhobo, Linus is from Edo state, What do I have to do with Ethiope East CAN? There was Election at a time in Isokolo in their Bloc , Linus scored 7, so what is the fuss about the election in Asaba?,he will be inviting the disciplinary committee soon”.
But Bishop Umudi insisted that CAN made up of five blocks, it was agreed that each of the blocks should present 10 delegates each for the election and a room for the outgoing executive to vote, thereby bringing to a total 60, 48 persons that voted at the election adding that the election was moved to Asaba because it could not hold after two failed attempts with Ethiope East as the venue also considering the atmosphere that was alleged to have been insecure.
Bishop Kingsley Enakirherhi speaking further said” even the council Chairman, Chief Faith Majemite is aware of the arrangement to move the election over to Asaba because of security threats from those that were bent on winning, CAN Constitution does not recognize more than 10persons per bloc, and my Vice Chairman did not participate is false, Since I am there, it was not necessary to leave the Vice there, for the Secretary, he withdrew because he became exhausted by the various threats from Bishop Umudi”.
