At least five people from Gobirawa village under Magami district in Gusau local government area of Zamfara state were reported dead following exchange of fire with suspected cattle rustlers who attempted to invade the village.
Reports said four of the suspected cattle rustlers have also been killed under fierce resistance from the villagers who were already said to be on alert since the reception of an alleged notification letter of the invasion.
Seven more people from the village were recorded to have sustained various degrees of injuries during the fierce battle and have since rushed to Magami hospital for medical attention.
A resident, who did not want his identity in a print told our Correspondent that, the villagers have already made up their minds to face the dangerous group for total reliance on security operatives would not yield the needed protection from the bandits’ attack.
“It was victorious for us, the bandits were taken by surprise, because we ambushed them few kilometres away from the village where they did not expect any plan for counter attack on them”, the villager contended.
He further narrated that, some of the bandits did not even corked on their AK-47, as they were reluctant considering the distance to cover before reaching the targeted village, adding that the villagers used their bows and arrows to silently weakened the force of the bandits before physical combat commenced.
Confirming the incidence, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state Command, DSP Lawal Abdullahi, said the Police have already swung into investigations on the matter, and called on people in the state to always remain vigilante and report any suspicious movement to security agencies for necessary action.
