The Northern Archdiocesan Executive Council (NADEC) of Celestial Church of Christ Kaduna State has called on the Inspector General of Police and Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State Command to use their good office to secure the release of wife of the slain Evangelist Tony Esezebor.
This was stated in a letter signed by Sup. Evangelist Olanrewaju Omolayo and Most Sup. Evangelist Onafijabi, President and Archdiocese Head Chairman respectively and made available to newsmen in Kaduna yesterday.
The letter addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State Police Command and dated 15th January, 2020, stated that NADEC wishes to report the ugly development of the men of the Nigerian Police which resulted to the death of the clergy in charge of Kakau Parish and the kidnapping of his wife at the wee hours of Tuesday, 14th January 2020.
The Church expressed dismay over what its described as lukewarm attitude of personnel of Nigerian Police which led to the death of one of its clergy, Evangelist Tony Esezebor.
The letter which was received and acknowledged in the office of the Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State Command on the 16th January, 2020 disclosed that over ten kidnappers stormed the residence of the late clergy, shooting sporadically and forcefully broke the wall and doors of the clergy’s apartment.
“On noticing the kidnappers presence, the deceased called one of the members of the church who is a retired Police Officer by name Evangelist Kingsley Edebor, who immediately reported the matter to Police control room three times, as a follow up and was told that the men on patrol had been contacted including DPO of Police Divisional Headquarters at toll gate.
“The deceased’s son by name Joseph Esezebor, who lives in Buwaya was also contacted and he quickly ran to the Police men stationed by Flyover Bridge after Gonigora, about 500 meters away from the scene of the incidence. The Police men on ground turned him down.
“The DPO of the division at the toll gate confirmed that he was contacted by the control room and there was no help too. So, the kidnappers operated freely and even took away the wife of the deceased up till now.
“Around 1 pm same day, the kidnappers contacted the family and demanded for a sum of one hundred million naira ransom”.
