Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina state has disclosed that civil servants are free to join political party of their choice.
Masari made the disclosure weekend while receiving the report of the state APC ward congress committee.
He further clarified that there was a supreme Court judgement that allows civil servants to join party politics.
Masari however added that what was not allowed was for a person drawing government salary to contest for a position in his chosen political party
The governor similarly expressed optimism with the successes recorded during the ward congress in the state, applauding the free, fair and transparent manner it was conducted.
“ Reports of the conduct I received from other states was encouraging. In such state the Congress were conduct peacefully and transparently. I call on other political parties to borrow a leaf from APC Ward Congress“ he said.
The governor noted that the consensus approach adopted by the party across the country has yielded positive result and reduced friction in the party.
Masari further disclosed that the party in Katsina has at least 1.3 million membership strength, appealing to stakeholders to use the membership strength for the success of the party in the forthcoming 2023 elections.
In his remarks, the chairman of the national committee on Ward congress in Katsina state, Alhaji Ali Kumo has stressed that the committee had ensured fairness and justice in the conduct of the Congress in the state.
He thanked the state governor Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari for the support given to the committee in their assignment.
