A 31-year-old clergyman, John Obinna, was yesterday brought before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stabbing a couple with a broken bottle over his missing phone battery.
Obinna is facing a four-count charge bothering on conspiracy, stealing and assault.
The prosecutor, SP Austin Orji, told the court that the offences were committed on Februay 22 at 10.30 a.m. at Flat 999, Ikota Housing Estate, Ajah, Lagos.
Orji alleged that Obinna stole the battery of the mobile phone when he went to the house of the complainant, Kingsley Nweokocha, to iron his clothes.
“Immediately the accused left, the complainant’s wife, Esther,discovered that the battery of her Techno phone was missing and shealerted her husband.
“Kingsley confronted Obinna about the missing battery which led to exchange of words between them.’’
Ori said out of anger, the accused picked a broken bottle and stabbed Kingsley and his wife particularly in the head, hands and shoulders.
He noted that the offences contravened Sections 243, 285(5) and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Obinna, however, entered a plea of “not-guilty’’.
The Magistrate, Mrs Salama Matepo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case toMarch 25. (NAN).
