An Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, yesterday remanded a 21-year-old lottery agent, Solomon Joshua, in prison over alleged defilement of an 11-year-old minor.
Joshua, who resides in No. 9, Allen Balogun St., Aguiyi Road, Lekki, Lagos, is facing a charge of defilement of a child.
The Magistrate, Mrs. F. O. Aigbokhaevbo, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody until the next adjourned date when bail would be reconsidered.
“Although the offence is bailable, I hereby order that the accused be remanded in prison custody until April 16 when bail will be reconsidered,” she said.
The Prosecutor, Mr. Ishaku Babaje, had told the court that the accused committed the offence at 8.30p.m. on March 21, at his residence at Allen Balogun St., Aguiyi Road, Lekki, Lagos.
He alleged that the accused had unlawful sexual intercourse with the 11-year-old minor (name withheld).
The prosecutor said the offence violated Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos 2011.
Section 137 states, “anyone who has sexual intercourse with a child is guilty of a felony and is liable to imprisonment for life.”
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. (NAN)
