An Abuja Senior Magistrates’ court, has ordered a student, Victor Anwukah, 30, and his cousin, Roseline, 30, to be remanded in prison for allegedly assaulting a woman.
The accused persons were arraigned on four counts of joint act, criminal force and assault, criminal intimidation and attempt to commit an offence of theft.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr. Zubairu Mohammed, ordered the accused persons, both residing at Kado Kuchi Village in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), be remanded until March, 24 for trial.
Mohammed said that they were to remain in prison custody, pending when the court received report that the woman had come out of coma after the beating.
He said that the state of health of the victim, Ms Destiny Egbum, would be monitored by the police.
“In the interim, the accused persons are to be remanded in Suleja prison till March 24 to enable the police officers conclude their investigation,’’ the magistrate said.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Mohammed, told the court that the matter was reported by the complainant, Ms Lantana Usman of Gostu Plaza, Gwarinpa Estate, Abuja, at the Gwarinpa Police Station on March 13.
Mohammed said that on the same date, the accused persons conspired and assaulted the victim, Egbum of Gostu Plaza and left her unconscious.
He said that Egbum was immediately rushed to a Hospital in Gwarinpa, while in a critical condition.
He said the accused persons also attempted to steal the clothes displayed in the shop of the victim for sale before they were arrested by the police.
The accused persons had pleaded not guilty to the charges. (NAN)
