The Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service, Col.
Ahmed Alli (rtd), has cleared the air on the modalities used for recruitment into the customs, as demanded by some Nigerians.
Alli made the clearance on Tuesday in Abuja, while responding to questions during an interactive meeting with the leadership of the Federal Character Commission (FCC).
According to him, 1,143 successful candidates were drawn from over 828,333 applicants that applied for different positions advertised.
“Out of the 828,333 that applied, only 681,263 completed the registration process while 162,410 met the criteria set for the recruitment.
“83,835 of the candidates sat for the examination with 37,230 scoring 40 and above, it was from this poll that the 1,143 that qualified for employment were drawn from.”
He, however, informed the FCC Commissioners that, while the Customs got the approval to employ 3,200, there was plan to open the recruitment portal by December to fill the remaining slots in accordance with the guideline set for it.
In order to ensure equity and fairness, the service had decided to allocate 4 slots each to all the 774 local governments across the country.
“The superintendent cadre was simply reserved for graduate professionals, and one each from all the local governments have been selected while the lower cadres that have not been filled would be completed in the supplementary exercise slated for December, 2021.”
Earlier, the Executive Chairman of FCC Dr Dankaka stated that the Customs boss was invited to clear the air on some of the questions being asked by some Nigerians on the modalities adopted for the recruitment exercise.
