The Chairman, Board of Directors of Unity Bank Plc, Alhaji Nu’uman Barau Dambatta has resigned his appointment, Peoples Daily reliably learnt last night.
A source close to the bank told our correspondent that the former chairman tendered his resignation letter yesterday.
According to the source, the Board is expected to hold an emergency meeting today to deliberate on the development, in addition to other critical matters affecting the bank.
Dambatta, a seasoned public servant retired as Federal permanent secretary before his appointment as the board chairman of the bank.
The former board chairman was at different times Permanent Secretary in nine Federal ministries; including major ones such as Power & Steel, Transportation, Education and Works, before retiring in 2010.
Dambatta replaced Professor Akin Mabogunje, who retired from the board along with some directors in December, 2010 having served since the inception of the bank in 2006.
When contacted for confirmation on the resignation of Dambatta, the Head of Corporate Communications of Unity Bank, Theodora Ameachi, terminated the call immediately after our reporter’s introduced himself to her on phone last night.
She also refused to answer his subsequent calls which got through to her cell phone.
The bank has gone through series of transitions with two managing directors, Ado Wanka and Rislaudeen Muhammad resigning under eight months.
