A businessman who sells hides, Jibril Ali, 28, accused of cheating has appeared in a Grade 1 Area court, Aso Pada, Mararaba.
The prosecutor, PC Friday Adaji, told the court that the matter was reported on February 18 by one Malam Hussaini Garba, of Abbatoir Road, at the ‘A’ Division Police Station, Mararaba, Nasarawa State.
Adaji said sometime in July, 2013 Garba gave the accused N40, 000 to supply him with goat hides.
He said the accused converted the said money to his personal use without supplying the hide.
All attempts, he said, to get back the N40, 000 by Garba failed.
He said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 322 of the Penal code.
If convicted, he faces three years in prison with an option to pay a fine or with both.
The accused who is not represented by counsel, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The presiding judge, Mr. Albert Maga, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N100, 000 and a surety in like sum.
Maga ordered that the surety must be a responsible citizen with landed property and must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court.
He also ordered that the surety should write an undertaking that the accused would not commit similar offence again pending the determination of the case.
Maga adjourned the case till today for proper hearing. (NAN)
