The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) North-Central zone has donated some search-and-rescue and other equipment to Babale Unit Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), to assist them in their operations during road traffic crashes.
Presenting the equipment on behalf of the Zonal Coordinator, M.B. Abdulsalam, the head of Search and Rescue, Mr. Kabiru Salihu said the agency has departed from the era of mere relief distribution to disaster risk reduction.
Abdulsalam commended the effort of the Federal Road Safety Commission in reducing road crashes accident on our high ways.
Receiving the items, the head of operations of the Command, Commander F.O Opabi express appreciation to NEMA noting that the equipment will go a long way in assisting them in their operations.
Earlier in the month, the North-Central Zonal Commander of the FRSC, Yakubu Attah paid a courtesy visit to NEMA North-Central zonal office and showed his appreciation on the support in term of manpower and equipment he received from the gency during the last ‘Ember’ month’s operation. He later requested the agency’s assistance of the items for its unit Commands to assist them in their operations.
Similarly, the Disaster Management Department of the Plateau state’s Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were given some body bags to assist in their operation in evacuation of death bodies to mortuaries.
The items donated included: body bags, rubber gloves and medic gloves. Others were leather gloves, protective aprons and fire extinguishers.
