The governorship flagbearer of the Labour Party ( LP) in the June 21st governorship election in Ekiti state and a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Opeyemi Bamidele, has said that the need to unite the political class in the state made him to commit himself to a single tenure if elected the governor of the state.
Bamidele who spoke to newsmen on his ambition at the weekend identified the craze for second tenure as the bane of development in Ekiti state.
The LP flagbearer said suspicion occasioned by the second term ambition has always been the cause of disintegration among officials of government in the state and that such has contributed immensely to the political bad blood and lack of trust among the political elites in Ekiti.
He said “I have committed myself by writing it down and signing a document that I will not seek a second term when elected. This is because the second term ambition of Ekiti state governors since the inception of civilian administration has been the bane of development in the state.
“I won’t want to suspect my Deputy or even any of my commissioners of plotting to unseat me. Kayode Fayemi frustrated my Senatorial ambition because he was afraid I would run against him and truncate his second term,” he said.
Bamidele also promised to conduct the local government election in the state within the first six months of his taking over criticizing incumbent governor, Fayemi, for running the state like an administrator.
