An electrician, Sani Tenimu, 20, has appeared in a Senior Magistrates’ court in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, for allegedly stealing electrical cables valued at N1.2 Million.
Tenimu is charged with one count of theft.
The prosecutor, Cpl Francis Tanko, told the court that on March 13, one Cpl Augustine Ogar of the Nigerian Defence Headquarters, Abuja, lodged a report at the Wuse Zone 3 Police Station.
He said that Ogar had reported that on same day, at about 10.45 p.m., while inspecting a building site that he was managing, he discovered that some items were missing.
According to Tanko, Ogar discovered that the caravan where the electrical materials were kept was broken into and the electrical cables valued at N1.2 million were stolen.
Tanko said that the offence contravened section 287 of the Penal Code which prescribed five years imprisonment.
The accused pleaded not guilty.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr. Mohammed Anka, admitted the accused to bail for N200,000 with one reliable surety who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
He ordered that the surety should own a shop within the jurisdiction and produce a one year payment receipt for the shop.
Anka adjourned the case to April 9 for continuation of hearing. (NAN)
