From Ahmed Kaigama, Bauchi
A former lawmaker in the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Harsanu Yunusa Guyaba has called for an urgent meeting of all stakeholders in the North-east zone of the country to brain-storm and proffer solution to the insurgency and insecurity bogging the sub-region.
Guyaba noted, in a statement made available to newsmen in Bauchi at the weekend, that the Northeast has in the past few years suffered serious setbacks culminating gradually to its grinding to halt.
The lawmaker described as amazing the silence of stakeholders in the sub-region in the face of the evil that increasingly leads to loss of lives and properties of innocent citizens including school children.
“It is amazing that our legislators never staged a walk-out and protest in the various legislative Houses to ensure that the executive at the federal level take decisive action to eliminate insurgency and insecurity to bring succor to defendless citizensand school children”, he said.
“In fact, the zone has 18 senators, 47 member of the House of Representatives, 155 members of State Houses of Assembly, 12 ex-civilian governors, 56 first class emirs, an ex-civilian vice president, 3 ex-secretaries to the government of the federation, 51 ex-ministers, 2 rtd IGs, many retired DIGs, AIGs, CPs and many rtd army generals who have failed to do something on the insecurity in the area” he said.
The former lawmaker queried that for how long will the killing of innocent and defend less citizens continue before stakeholders in the zone take action that will halt the senseless killings of human beings and destruction of economy of the North-east.
Guyaba further noted that virtually all business activities in the Northeast have collapsed, and the economy crumbling.
