The Federation of Muslim women association in Nigeria (FOWMAN) has reiterated the benefits of Exclusive breastfeeding, aa it will reduce infants mortality and promote better health for mothers.
The State Amira of the association, Pharmacist Aisha Isyaku Tukur, stated this while speaking to the media during commemoration of the world breastfeeding week in Kaduna
Tukur explained that the world health organization (WHO) reports stated that increasing breastfeeding to near-universal levels could save more than 800,000 lives every year, the majority being children under six months
She further explained that breastfeeding also decreases the risks of mothers developing breast cancer, ovarian cancer, Type 2 diabetes, and heart disease.
The Amira tasked parents to make exclusive breastfeeding their most important responsibility to their families.
She stressed that to encourage exclusive breastfeeding, Kaduna state Government approve six months of maternity leave to mothers and encourage affordable heavy eating in other to inculcate the habits of breastfeeding in young mothers
She said FOWMAN is also encouraging other members of the family to support new mothers and help them cope through the process of breastfeeding
