Coordinator of FCT Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD), Hon. Ishiaku Tanko Yamawo has admonished residents especially eligible voters to ensure peaceful conduct before and during the forthcoming Area Councils election in the Territory.
This charge is coming just as FCT residents prepare to elect councillors and chairmen across the six Area Councils and 62 Wards of the FCT this Saturday, March 9.
Speaking with some journalists, ahead of the area councils’ election, Yamawo called on the electorates to vote their choice of candidates based on merit.
According to him, the six area council chairmen in the FCT have performed excellently well and therefore require the votes of residents to enable them continue with their people-oriented policies in their areas.
He therefore urged residents to look at the performance of the candidates, and not the performance of President Muhammadu Buhari, before casting their votes for them.
“What I will tell FCT residents is to look at the performance of our area council chairmen, before voting for them and not the performance of President Muhammadu Buhari. This is because the area council chairmen are closer to the grassroots.
“So, anybody voting against the All Progressives Congress (APC) because of Baba should put that sentiment aside and look at the credibility of the candidates at the area councils.
“So, we should look at what they have done and then re-elect them based on their performance,” he stressed.
However, the STDD coordinator also revealed that the department has opened many rural roads in the six area councils of the FCT, in the last three years.
He added that with the re-election of the APC-led administration, his office would build on its achievements.
