The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) is committed to the completion of the Multimillion Naira Secretariat of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council, Acting Director, Department of Information And Communication of the Administration, Mrs Stella Ojeme has disclosed.
Mrs Ojeme reiterated that the FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello remains a friend of the press, and is passionate about them having an enabling environment to practice their profession.
She added that the Minister, in fulfilment of his promise to complete the secretariat, the project has been captured in the just released FCT 2017 budget.
She spoke while receiving National President of NUJ, Mr Waheed Odusile, who was on a courtesy visit to the Department.
The Acting Director also commended the National President for the role he played in ensuring that Information officers in the administration can now receive weigh- in allowances.
She equally commended the recent biometrics introduced by the National Union, which according to her, has it has raised the bar for the practice of the profession.
On his part, the NUJ National President who described FCTA as an important stakeholder, noted that Unionism is about ensuring that people’s rights are given to them.
He explained that it is to take care of the odd hours that Journalists have to work, even as he called for cooperation of all journalists.
