A female undergraduate of the Delta state University, Abraka, suspected to have unwanted pregnancy has given birth to a baby girl and allegedly dumped her in a toilet pipe on Friday evening, in Oleh community in the state.
Though hoping that the child would be flushed down the pipe,
reports said that was not to be, as fortunately the pipe wasn’t wide enough, so the new born baby was stuck in the pipe, causing her to cry painfully while the mother disappeared into thin air.
Investigation showed the baby’s wailing was loud enough to attract the attention of other students accommodated in the same area, who raised an alarm, calling attention of the state firemen who rushed to the scene immediately, went to work and freed the newborn baby.
Eye witness account indicated the firemen had to break open the pipe to rescue the day-old child.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Celestina
Kalu, who spoke to journalists on the incident, disclosed that the
police are on the trail of the undergraduate, whose name as at the time of filing this report could not be ascertained.
While urging residents of the community to help intensify efforts in the search of the undergraduate, DSP Kalu assured that the police would do everything possible to fish out the fleeing nursing mother.
