Federal Government yesterday announced the shutdown of Utorogu and Ughelli gas power plants in Delta state to allow for scheduled maintenance.
The Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo who made the announcement said the action was in line with the efforts to consolidate on the successes recently recorded in improved electricity supply to homes and businesses in many parts of the country.
In a statement signed by Professor Chidiebere Onyia, SSA to the Minister, which was made available to newsmen in Abuja, said the planned shutdown which begins today 2nd June, will be completed on
22nd June, 2014.
The statement promised that at the completion of this scheduled maintenance and upgrades, the facilities will be re-commissioned hence it will improve gas production and ensure quality output from the lines to the power plants.
Professor Onyia’s statement clarified that the on-going maintenance will slightly affect power plants fed by these gas facilities which also include Egbin and Omotosho power stations.
The maintenance work is being carried out by the Nigerian Petroleum Development Corporation (NPDC), is regrettable, just as the Minister requested understanding and support of Nigerians in the arduous task of revamping the sector.
