The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), in Gwagwalada Area Council, of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) says it has concluded arrangement to reduce the road traffic accidents drastically in this year.
The FRSC acting Zonal Commander in charge of the area, Mr. David Mendie, who made the revelation in an interview with newsmen during the launching of this year’s “Operation Crash the Crashes” campaign in the area, said that the operation was aimed at reducing road traffic accidents not only in the FCT but across the country.
He added that the operation was a nation-wide exercise, pointing out that the FRSC’s target was to reduce road crashes by 15 percent as well as fatality by 25 percent in 2014.
He explained that the target of the operation was to arrest the drivers who engaged in over – speeding, over-loading, dangerous over-taking and telephone conversation while driving among other traffic violations.
The zonal commander, however, disclosed that the offenders were made to pay fines to a mobile court at the scene of the exercise.
A motorist, Mr. Felix Akintokun, who was apprehended for driving a car with worn-out tyres, said that he paid a fine of N2,000 for the offence. Peoples Daily observed that the FRSC personnel were deployed to the different locations along the Abuja-Lokoja expressway for the exercise.
