A Fulani socio-; cultural group, Fulbe United for Peace and Development (FPD) has called on President Bola Tinubu to caution his Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nysom Wike over what they called the Minister’s acts of ethnic profiling against Fulani.
In a communique issued after a meeting of its National and Zonal leadership consultative meeting in Abuja yesterday, the group since the assumption of office the minister had taken many actions against the ethnic group.
According to the communique signed by the group’s National President, Ardo Aliyu Yola, the Minister has been engaging in ethnic profiling, name calling and witch-hunting among others against the ethnic group since assumption of office.
It recalled that as a group it had a pact with the President during his campaign where he made some commitments to the Fulani in exchange for their support.
It said while it fulfilled its own part of the deal, it would appear some the President’s appointees, especially the FCT Minister was out to “slap” them on the face for their support.
While commending the President for the gains of his administration so far, it however said the actions of the Minister against the ethnic group in the FCT had made nonsense of the Fulani support and votes for the President in the last general elections.
The group also frowned at what they called revocation of their Patron, Sen Ahmed Abubakar MoAllahyidi’s contract with the International Conference Center (ICC) without recourse to due process.
The communique reads in part: “As discussed in the consultative meeting today, we the Fulbe has witnessed ethnic profiling from many people who found themselves in certain positions over the years before your arrival.
“Since you took over the reign of powers, we dear say that this has reduced but of recent, one person in your cabinet (Hon. Minister of FCT Barr. Nyesom Wike the) has made the ethnic profiling of the Fulbe as a key past time.
“A recent concern is the onslaught of the FCT Minister’s unilateral, unconstitutional impunity with which he pronounced a revocation of the management contract of our patron Sen. Ahmad Abubakar MoAllahyidi, the convener of Arewa New Agenda and MD of Integrated Facility Management Services IFMSL Ltd managers of the International Conference Center ICC Abuja.
“This profiling is contrary to the promised made by Mr. president on the campaign trail where he assured the FULBE of fair hearing and promotion of the welfare of the FULBE alongside other Nigerians.
“The targeting of our Patron, Sen. Ahmad Abubakar MoAllahyidi- the Convener of Arewa New Agenda and MD of Integrated Facility Management Services Ltd- managers of the International Conference Center Abuja) by the Minister is a slap on our face, and we are very concerned that the action of the Minister is putting a wedge in the support we give to you Mr. president .
“ We ask the president to intervene by calling Minister Wike to order. We humbly ask that Minister Wike be compelled to follow due process in what he is doing, to kindly ask the FCT Minister to desist from profiling the Fulbe group or any group of people/individuals especially those who have worked to bring this administration to power. “
The resolution also include a call to the President to intervention and to stop Minister Wilke from shutting down the ICC and tempering with the lawful contract agreement the IFMSL has which has a ten-year life span.
“We remind the President to fulfill the promises he made to the Fulbe regarding, the setting up a livestock agency to cater for the migrant cattle rearers, to make the name of the Fulani a very respectable name and provide social welfare for them alongside other Nigerians.
“Finally, we are concerned that such an onslaught on our leaders is a direct repudiation of the effort that we contributed to bringing your administration to power.
“We kindly urge you to use your good office to call Minister Wike to order or remove him from the office he occupies so as to avoid the negative impact he is creating for your administration.”
