Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe state yesterday visited the victims of Sunday’s bomb blast in Potiskum and promised to foot their medical bills.
Peoples Daily recalls that two suspected child suicide bombers on Sunday blew themselves up in a market in potiskum.
The attack killed seven people and injured 48 others.
Gaidam, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Press Affairs and Information, Abdullahi Bego, indicated that “the Government will foot all medical bills of the injured who are receiving treatment at General Hospital Potiskum, including the 11 who have been referred to the Federal Medical Centres Nguru and Birnin Kudu”.
“We will provide every support that the injured need to ensure they recover fully. We will pay all the bills, even if it means sending those who have been referred to other hospitals outside the country”, the statement said.
Meanwhile, the governor expressed outrage at the barbaric attacks perpetrated by criminals and insurgents in the state and other parts of the country, calling on people across the state to pray intensely for Almighty God to restore peace and security and expose those responsible.
The Governor has also directed the acting Principal Medical Officer (PMO) at the Potiskum General Hospital Dr Musa Sarki to immediately liaise with the Commissioner of Health and submit a memo on a proposal he made for the establishment of an Emergency Response Center at the Hospital.
