The Gombe state House of Assembly yesterday, decried that the sharing strategy of the 2014 budget by the Federal government was inadequate as North-eastern region were only giving N2billion to carter their need.
Addressing newsmen shortly after its proceedings, the Speaker, Gombe state House of Assembly and chairman of Speakers Conference of Nigeria, Rt. Hon. Inuwa Garba, who made the disclosure yesterday in Gombe, also said that there is need for the region to protest, in order to showcase its feeling, to enable the Federal Government realize and come to their aid.
According to him, the North-East region, in recent times, have been thrown into problem due to the issue of insecurity in the area and urged the Federal Government should look into the problem by assisting the region with funds to enable them curtail the menace.
He called on the National Assembly and the House of Representatives, to as matter of urgency, intervene on the matter, in order to sustain the 2014 budget shared by the Federal Government which N2 billion was given to North – East, to be increased to N10 billion for the six states in the region.
Speaking further, the Speaker directed the Clerk of the House, Shehu Mohammed to draft a letter to the remaining five states’ House of Assemblies in the zone to also make pass resolutions concerning the inadequate sharing of the 2014 budget.
He explained that the House committee on budget at the National Assemblies failed to take it serious with the inadequate sharing of the budget by the Federal Government, adding that only Sen. Ahmed from Yobe who rejected the offer from north-east.
